Speech Pattern is an investigation into contemporary subjectivity utilising performance, video and installation. The work draws from the fields of dance and the moving image, alongside queer, feminist and psychoanalytic theory.
Using a collaborative process, artist David Rosetzky will work with choreographer Jo Lloyd and performers Shelley Lasica and Stephen Phillips to explore the construction of memory, behaviour and interpersonal relationships.
Taking as its premise that the subject and construction of self is relative to others and dependent on language, Speech Pattern aims to challenge normative views of gender and identity by refiguring conventions of speech, image and movement through performance and installation.
David Rosetzky’s cool, idiosyncratic video portraits and studies often involve examinations into identity that break out into dance when you least expect, his video portrait of Cate Blanchette, in the National Portrait Gallery is an exemplary example. This new work with choreographer Jo Lloyd is a world first especially commissioned by PADA for Adelaide.
