For our first public project, PADA commissioned works that embodied global and local thinking. We placed solo investigations alongside interesting exchanges. The exhibition presented four new works, an experimental criticism project and an afternoon of artist talks.
Two performance installations occupied the space at the Queen’s throughout the five evenings. Jason Sweeney’s Silent Type and Sarah-Jane Norman’s Stone Tape Theory were solo, durational, spacious, sound-based, sometimes silent, sometimes abrasive, queer and expansive.
Alongside, two performance events were offered each evening. Sarah Rodigari’s Reach Out Touch Faith (the one with the goat) and Sandpit’s collaboration with Iceland company Kviss Bumm Bang. 101.IS to 5000.AU explored exchange and delegated performance, sustainability and personal choice; they were collaborative, playful, sharp and witty.
Finally the fifth project Jane Howard’s Simple Art Transfer Protocol documented and reflected on Near and Far in live and online platforms, through a wide-ranging, tangential conversation.

Throughout the exhibition we raised funds for two brilliant Australian activist organisations – RISE (Refugee Survivors and Ex-detainees), the first and only refugee and asylum seeker welfare and advocacy organisation in Australia entirely governed by refugees, asylum seekers and ex-detainees; and Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network, Australia’s first Indigenous youth climate network, building a movement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people for climate justice.
